Pint of Science is an annual worldwide science festival which brings scientists and artists together to showcase research.  I participated in the 2026 Glasgow event, collaborating with Dr Jake Lever from the School of Computer Science at the University of Glasgow.

Jake’s interests include biomedical text mining and the application of machine learning in this area.  Thousands of biological and medical research papers are published every day.  It is physically impossible for a human researcher to keep up.  Biomedical text mining bridges the gap, by using automated tools to extract, organize, and analyse information from biomedical literature.  The goal is to identify patterns and connections, which could point towards new biomedical discoveries, suggest areas for research, and provide practical support in the treatment of patients.

The collages feature sheets from copies of The Lancet from 1826-27.

The quilt features fabric I designed, featuring DNA bases and binary code.
