The twin Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft, launched in 1977, have reached interstellar space.
Their primary mission was to explore Jupiter and Saturn. They showed us active volcanoes on Jupiter’s moon Io and details of Saturn’s rings for the first time. But these hardy old jalopies keep on keeping on … the mission has been extended, and they will now send back data from the edge of the Sun’s influence, and beyond.
We’re exploring the universe with the equivalent of an old Morris Minor ….
