Captain James Cook (1728-1779) was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer and captain, who undertook three Pacific voyages of exploration, sailing thousands of miles across largely uncharted areas of the globe, producing detailed maps.

Abel Janszoon Tasman (1603–1659) was a Dutch seafarer, explorer and merchant, best known for his voyages of 1642 and 1644.
